Winter Bowls
Some of you may interested in ‘keeping your hand in’ over the winter so that you can hit the new season running. Here are one or two suggestions that might appeal, either as a regular event or as a one-off experience during the winter months.
1 The Winter Flyer.
These are weekly competitions throughout the winter, one being based at the greens in Central Park in Wallasey.
The ‘Flyer’ competitions attract some of Wirrals best players, but for those of you who have aspirations of improving their game by playing and learning from the best, this could be for you.
Details:
Central Park - When? Every Sunday, 10am start (advise arrive 9.30am)
How much? Initial £3 registration then £5 per session
How long? 1 - 4hrs, depending on how well you do!

2. Indoor Bowling
This might appeal to anyone who wants to get out of the weather and play in a non-competitive environment. This takes place at the “Active For All’ complex off Arrowebrook Road, Upton, CH49 1AB, and takes place on the indoor soccer artificial grass pitch in the complex. The session is run by, and for, Port Sunlight Village and Works Club with whom we have a good relationship and welcome us to join in.
As a courtesy, if you wish to go along, please check in with their secretary, Kevin, (07858391647) to make sure they aren’t oversubscribed. You’ll always be made welcome if numbers allow. There may be other days when this takes place which we’re investigating and will update when we know more.

Activity For All - When? Every Friday, 1-3pm
How much? £5 per session
3. Outdoor Bowling.
We’ve discovered a club in Helsby which has two all-weather, outdoor crown greens. The club is receptive to members of other clubs coming to try them out (for a price) and they are a serious option for anyone who wants to play regularly over the winter - just join their club! (currently £31 for 12 months, rolling contract)
Because of the distance to travel, we’ve booked two afternoon sessions to allow you to experience the greens for yourself. So as a Christmas treat climb aboard one of these sessions for a couple of hours of quite testing bowling - but fun. If we are over-subscribed we’ll try to book an additional session for anyone who misses out. We’re allowed 12 members at each session so its first come first served.
